The History Of Our School

Sunnyridge English Medium School opened on 1 January 1953 with Mr A.L Levine as the Principal. When the school opened, there were six completed classrooms, as well as two stockrooms, 2 offices, strong room, staff room, tea kitchen and a storeroom.

On 7 January 1953, the school opened with an enrolment of 190 pupils. Mr Levine retired at the end of 1969.

On 1 July 1970 Mr Petty assumed his position as Principal of the school. Mr A.L Petty retired at the end of June 1976.

Miss M. Mc Neill was appointed Principal in July 1976. 

Mr J. Van Rensburg served as Acting Principal from January 1985 until the end of June 1986.

Mr J. Fourie was appointed Principal in July 1986.

Mr E.J Dreyer assumed position as Acting Principal in January 1992. In April 1992 Mr E.J Dreyer officially appointed as Principal.
2 June 1996, official opening of the E.J Dreyer block - 5 new classrooms.

30 October 1996, official opening of Ukukhathalela Centre, by Bishop David Beetge.

28 July 1999, official opening of the Brent Eustice Media Centre. Attended by Prof Kader Asmal.

In 2002, school received Racial Integration Award. Award was presented to Mr Dreyer and Mr Khumalo (chairman of SGB) by Deputy President Jacob Zuma.

2003 - School's 50th Birthday.

Mr Dreyer retired at the end of 2005.

Miss M. Odendaal appointed as Acting Principal in January 2006.

Miss M. Odendaal officially appointed as Principal in January 2007.

Miss M, Odendaal retired at the end of June 2022.

Mrs HJ Smith appointed as Acting Principal in July 2022.
